Humbled

Before I was Humbled I went Astray;

But now I keep your word.

"If suffering comes my way, O God, may I receive it as a means of being drawn closer to you, of learning your love, of will, even as so many of your children have learned our ways through the school of humility. Amen"

(October 14, 1923 - October 10, 2001)

"No right is more sacred to a nation, to a people, than the right to freely determine its social, economic, political and cultural future without external interference.  The fullest expression of this right occurs when a nation freely governs itself".

(July 16, 1937 - April 16, 2000)

"Raynette spent most of her adult life advocating for tribal sovereignty and treaty rights. She started her career in 1969 as a receptionist for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In 1989, she became one of the very first “Self-Governance Coordinators” in Indian Country and served that capacity until 1994. In that capacity, she successfully championed and lobbied for permanent legislation which has since made self-governance the standard among Indian Tribes throughout the country"
