DOJ to Host Tribal Consultations on the Public Safety and Criminal Justice Needs of Indian Country

Starting today, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) will host two virtual tribal consultations to discuss efforts to address the violent crime rates in Native communities, including the rates of Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP). DOJ has released a Framing Paper with background information and questions for the discussion, and a Dear Tribal Leader Letter with details on how to participate. The tribal consultations are Wednesday, March 16, 2022 and Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. EDT.
Tribal Nations must submit written comments to OTJ@usdoj.gov by close of business on April 15, 2022.
